it was.... if only!

Holding hands and walking down a road is the best thing that anyone can do with someone who they know understands them completely.

Just sitting and listening to that someone makes your day anyday.

Thinking about those past moments is the best way to pay tribute to something you will cherish till your last breath.

Radio City

I was in my first year of engineering when i first heard something on radio city 91.1
First year no comps allowed, and me being not so rich, all i could afford was a cheap radio. But the shows were good and i still remember a guy called "johnsy" or someone like him. Radio city was the first of its kind and it was the best. I guess people were done with radio by the time they came to second year and so was i, we got computers, stitched a LAN together and spent some of the most memorable days of my life, playing some really cool games.
Around three years later, the radio business is BIG and there are many channels. Going to office listening to Radio City was one of the best ways to spend time on the traffic ridden hosur road. I don't really remember the exact day when i heard Vasanti on the "Morning show" of Radio city, but i can remember that she had the most energetic and sweetest voice of all the people on radio. She used to do a show on Thursdays i think, where she would call up kids all over Bangalore and ask them stuff.. the kids.. OMG, i hope mine will be half smart as those.. i don't think i was..... she was great. Then i bought a phone with a radio, and i even had the chance of speaking to her once.. it was awesome.. the feeling.
And now the complaint. I stopped listening to radio for about 1 month, and in the meanwhile everything has changed a lot. I read that "mirchi" is the most listened to radio channel, because they play Kannada all the time..... So i guess Radio city changed to a more of a Kannada channel.
Its really boring now.. no nice songs in the night show.. some crappy 1/2 Kannada 1/4 Tamil 1/5 English songs..... it really sucks.
If radio city changed into a Kannada channel because Mirchi was the one being listened to the most, they are not going to do any better i am sure.. No Vasanti on the morning show :(
I guess the main source of money for these radios is the Ads they air, but i am sure that the auto drivers( i believe they make up around 50% of the radio listening population) would never buy the products they try to sell through these ads. So whats the point in becoming a more of a Kannada channel and losing the already present large fan-base???( who are more likely to buy the products) I hope they had a better reason than just the number of people listening to some particular channel.
This doesn't mean i am against Kannada or something... though i don't think Kannada songs have anything to do with increasing the "image" of Kannada already present. They don't really portray what Kannada is anyway.. so screw those songs... play something good and which people who already are listening to will like. Try to keep one's fan base intact, try something new to attract other people.
Most of the Techies are non-Kannada's and are the people who listen to radio most... whats the use of making the morning show into a pro-Kannada show?
I read in some churmuri blog ... the author says that Kannada is not being given proper respect because its being aired only on Saturday mornings when not many people are listening.. and that the reason why "mirchi" is becoming more famous is because of the Kannada songs..
Are there really good songs worth listening to? i doubt it.
I was somewhat relieved to find Vasanti still an RJ at radio city, only that she does the evening show. But it doesn't feel the same to listen to her in the evenings, she was a better RJ with her morning show.
